What Is MICAT and Who Needs It?

MICAT (MICA Admission Test) is the entrance exam conducted by the Mudra Institute of Communications, Ahmedabad (MICA), and MICAT 2027 registration is the first step for anyone applying to MICA this cycle. MICA’s 2027 admissions cycle spans programmes across the School of Management, the School of Applied Creativity and the School of Strategic Communication. MICAT is part of the admission process across these programmes, but additional entrance-test and selection requirements vary by programme, and programme durations differ too — PGDM-C and PGDM run as 2027–29 batches, some shorter programmes run on a 2027–28 cycle, and FPM follows its own, longer doctoral-style cycle.

MICAT is held twice in each admission cycle — MICAT-I and MICAT-II — and MICA considers the better of the two scores where a candidate appears for both. Anyone applying to PGDM-C, PGDM, PGCM-SM, PGCM-AMC, PGCM-DMMC, CSC or FPM for this cycle needs to complete MICAT registration.

Which MICA Programmes Require MICAT?

MICA currently offers seven programmes across its three schools, and they fall into three groups depending on what’s required alongside MICAT.

A quick way to read this: PGDM-C, PGDM and PGCM-SM all need a CAT/XAT/GMAT score in addition to MICAT. PGCM-AMC, PGCM-DMMC and CSC currently follow a MICAT-led route on MICA’s central admissions page, without a separate entrance-test requirement. FPM has a genuine current conflict in MICA’s own published information — covered in detail below.

MICAT 2027 Eligibility

For PGDM-C and PGDM:

• A bachelor’s degree (10+2+3 system) or equivalent qualification in any discipline, recognised by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), with a minimum of 50% marks or equivalent CGPA.
• Final-year candidates may apply, subject to MICA’s prescribed conditions.
• A valid or upcoming score in at least one of CAT, XAT or GMAT.

For PGCM-SM:

• A bachelor’s degree meeting MICA’s current stated minimum-marks requirement.
• A valid or upcoming score in at least one of CAT, XAT or GMAT, along with MICAT.
• MICA’s current programme information does not explicitly confirm a final-year-student provision for PGCM-SM — applicants in their final year should verify this directly against MICA’s current programme instructions before applying.

For PGCM-AMC, PGCM-DMMC and CSC:

• A bachelor’s degree in any discipline meeting MICA’s minimum marks requirement for the specific programme.
• No separate CAT/XAT/GMAT requirement per MICA’s current admissions page — MICAT is the primary assessment for these programmes.

For FPM:

• A postgraduate/master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, meeting MICA’s minimum marks requirement.
• Whether an additional standardised test (CAT/GMAT/GRE/UGC-NET or equivalent) is required varies by year and research area, and current MICA sources are not fully aligned on this point for the 2027 cycle — see the FPM section below before you apply.

Eligibility details vary meaningfully by programme, so check the specific requirement for your target programme on MICA’s current application portal rather than assuming one rule applies across all seven.

CAT, XAT & GMAT Requirement

Whether you need a CAT, XAT or GMAT score alongside MICAT depends entirely on which programme you’re applying to:

• PGDM-C, PGDM, PGCM-SM: Yes, a valid or upcoming CAT, XAT or GMAT score is required in addition to MICAT.
• PGCM-AMC, PGCM-DMMC, CSC: No — these currently follow a MICAT-led admission route on MICA’s central Admissions 2027 page, without a CAT/XAT/GMAT requirement.
• FPM: Unresolved for 2027 — see the FPM section below.

On the GMAT validity window: MICA’s previous-cycle documentation referenced a “GMAT scores from 2024 onwards” type window, but this has not been reconfirmed as the definitive rule for this cycle, and some sources already reference a different window. If you’re applying with a GMAT score, verify the exact acceptable testing window directly against MICA’s current application instructions or admissions helpdesk before you register, rather than relying on a specific year cutoff from last year’s material.

MICAT 2027 Application Process

Once submitted, you’ll use your MICA login credentials to download your admit card closer to the exam date and to track your application status.

MICAT Application Fee

Because the exact wording around when the additional ₹500 becomes payable matters, don’t assume a flat “₹3,000 for two programmes at registration” calculation — check the live payment screen on MICA’s portal at the time you apply to confirm exactly what’s due and when.

MICAT-I vs MICAT-II

If you’re weighing which session to prioritise for your MICAT 2027 registration, here’s the direct comparison:

You can appear for MICAT-I only, MICAT-II only, or both. If you take both, MICA considers the better of your two scores for shortlisting. You do need to register separately (and pay the applicable fee) for each administration you want to appear in — registering for MICAT-I does not automatically enrol you for MICAT-II.

If you’re not confident about your MICAT-I performance, MICAT-II gives you a second attempt within the same admission cycle, provided you register within its own deadline.

MICAT Exam Pattern — Latest Official Pattern (Awaiting 2027 Confirmation)

Previous-cycle details also included a roughly 135-minute overall duration and a +1/−0.25 marking scheme in the objective aptitude section, with the Psychometric Test historically functioning as a qualifier rather than a scored component. None of these specifics should be treated as confirmed for MICAT 2027 until MICA publishes its detailed exam-pattern brochure for this cycle — check the official notification closer to your exam date.

MICA has also not released a confirmed list of MICAT 2027 test centres. Previous cycles covered close to 50 cities across India; whether a specific city such as Kolkata is included for 2027 should be confirmed from your admit card rather than assumed from last year’s list.

MICA Selection Process

Selection stages differ by programme group.

Note that MICAT-I and MICAT-II are exam sessions, not separate programmes — your choice of programme is made when you apply, independent of which MICAT session(s) you take. Group Exercise applies specifically to PGDM-C and PGDM; it is not a universal stage across every MICA programme.

MICA’s previous cycle published a numerical merit-weightage formula (covering CAT/XAT/GMAT, MICAT, PI, GE, academics and diversity/extracurriculars). Since this hasn’t been reconfirmed as the exact 2027 formula, it isn’t reproduced here — if MICA publishes updated 2027 weightages, check the official notification directly.

The FPM Selection Requirement — A Current Source Conflict

This is a genuine inconsistency between two currently published MICA sources, not simply old information versus new. It would be inaccurate to tell you FPM requires “only MICAT,” and equally inaccurate to tell you CAT/GMAT/GRE/UGC-NET is definitely mandatory for the 2027 FPM cohort. If you’re applying to FPM, verify the exact 2027 eligibility requirement directly with MICA’s admissions office before registering, rather than relying on either page in isolation.

MICAT Cut-offs

MICA does not publish official sectional or overall MICAT cut-offs in advance of an admission cycle. Any specific numerical cut-off figures you see quoted online are typically coaching-industry estimates based on previous cycles, not officially released numbers. Treat such figures as indicative at best, and focus your preparation on performing consistently across all sections rather than targeting an unconfirmed number.
